Carpentry Unlimited - History:

Established in 1978, Carpentry Unlimited, Inc. (CUI) began as a framing and trim contracting business with 18 full-time employees. In 1980, Carpentry Unlimited, Inc. expanded its business into commercial interiors with contracts with Walden Books throughout the United States. In a short time, CUI completed fourteen stores nationwide. CUI later built twelve condominiums in Stamford for a local developer and built several homes in Stamford, Pound Ridge, New Canaan and Greenwich as a framing subcontractor.

In 1984, Carpentry Unlimited, Inc. built its first speculative home of 4,000 square feet which sold for $450,000.00. In 1987, CUI bought four acres on Stanwich Road and built a 10,000 plus spec home which sold in 1991 for $3,500,000. In that same year, CUI built eight new homes in Stamford on Talmadge Lane. Talmadge Lane was a new street development which had six other homes that CUI built for another builder.

CUI has also done many renovations and additions through the years. We have renovated bathrooms, kitchens, built additions, wooden bridges, and homes. In 1996, CUI built four homes in Stamford on Weed Avenue near Holly Pond. This was the start of our new partnership named NorthWind Development, LLC. These four homes were speculative homes and all sold before they were completed.

In 1997, Carpentry Unlimited, Inc. was contracted to build an addition on a residence located on Hoyclo Road in Stamford. The work which cost over $200,000.00 included a new family room and gourmet kitchen. The original home was an 1800 circa farm house. We had to take great care with under pinning the foundation and dealing with the old structure. We also built a nine-car garage under the existing home and new addition. In 1999, we were asked to change a barn that was on this property into a pool house with a full kitchen and media room. This job was done on a time and material basis and ultimately cost $150,000.00. In 2003, CUI built a 15-car garage for the same client who was an avid car collector. Carpentry Unlimited, Inc. was later contracted by this same home owner to build an 1800 sq.ft. addition to their home for a new great room, two-bedrooms, one Jack & Jill bathroom and a full fitness center. This work was performed on a time and material basis.

During 1998 and 1999, Carpentry Unlimited, Inc. was contracted to renovate a home located on Juniper Hill Road in Greenwich. This project started out as a $900,000.00 contract which included an addition for a master bedroom suite. This work included two master baths, master bedroom with custom trim, dressing hall, and exercise room. While we were on the job, the client contracted us to build a billiards room, sitting room, and renovate all the bathrooms in the house. Before we finished the project the client contracted us to construct a new pool cabana with portico and several new stone walls. Before the project was over, the contract had grown to nearly 2,000,000.00.

In 2000, CUI built a spec home on Northwind Drive in Stamford. In 2001, we built a four house sub-division in Stamford on Edward Place. The first home sold on a half acre for $1,200,000. This was a news maker at the time because it was one of the first single family homes in Stamford on less than an acre to be sold for over $1,000,000.

In 2001, we built a spec home on Cliffdale Road in Greenwich. This home was 8000+ square feet and sold shortly after finishing it. Carpentry Unlimited, Inc. was hired by the new homeowner after the sale to finish the lower level of the home. We constructed a new media/theatre room, game room, and wine cellar. We also put an addition on the house to create a basketball court for the client's family who were avid players. In 2002, Carpentry Unlimited, Inc. remodeled Navigant International, a travel agency, in Stamford. It was a 3,500 sq.ft. space that included the office of the CEO. In that same year, we also built a custom spec home on Northwind Drive. After the sale of the home, we finished the lower level with a new media/theatre room, wine cellar, full bath, and fitness room. We were also contracted to finish the attic that was made into an au pair suite.

In 2003, we built a custom spec home on Hoyclo Road that broke a new record for a one acre home in North Stamford selling for $2,000,000. This home was purchased by the famous artist Armand Arman from New York City. This home is a center hall colonial with five bedrooms, a two- story great room, gourmet kitchen, two laundry rooms, and two-story grand foyer with a curved staircase. Mr. Arman owns many houses throughout the world and has said "This is one of the nicer homes that I owned."

In 2004, we constructed an addition on Starin Road in Stamford for a new master bathroom that was designed by Haigh Architects. This bathroom was very heavily detailed and made with superior quality materials, which included, glass tiles, heat in the floor through the shower stall, heated towel bars, free standing vanities, and custom lighting. The complete bathroom, including shower, floor, and surrounding walls, were glass tile with six different tile sizes placed in an intricate pattern. We call this the "jewel box" of bathrooms. In the period of 2004-2005, we built six new homes on a new development called Walnut Ridge Lane in Stamford. We also set another new record for a home selling in Stamford on 1/2 acre for over $1,000,000.

In 2006, CUI built a custom spec home on Donald Road that sold for $2,200,000. This home was 6000 square feet. In 2007, CUI built a beautiful new spec home on Haviland Road which has custom moldings and a custom kitchen by "Kitchens By Deane," six large bedroom and a large master suite.
In 2008, we built a new 5500 square foot custom spec house right next door to our other Donald Road house at 57 Donald Road in Stamford and a 12,000 square foot on Bridle Path Lane in New Canaan that has every amenity you can think of including a sauna in the lower level.
